A unique project involving partnerships between the Gwydir Valley Irrigators Association, Border Rivers Gwydir Catchment Management Authority, Cotton Catchment Communities CRC and the New England North West Landcare Chairs Network Inc has seen the appointment of a Regional Landcare Facilitator based at Moree.
The New England North West Landcare Chairs Network Inc was successful in obtaining funds from the Commonwealth Government Caring for Country program. This funding, strengthened by support from other partners, has seen the appointment of four new Regional Landcare Facilitators based at Moree, Walgett, Gunnedah and Tablelands/Slopes.
Sally Dickinson as been appointed as the Regional Landcare Facilitator based in the Gwydir Valley Irrigators Association office in Moree. With 15 years experience working closely with rural communities in the areas of sustainable agriculture and natural resource management for both State and Local Government in Victoria and Queensland, Sally will be an asset to the district.
The position aims broadly to increase the capacity and uptake of sustainable farm and land management practices including natural resource management by farmers and communities.
“I look forward to working closely with all of the projects stakeholders to assist landholders to participate in Cotton myBMP and Property Management Planning workshops, invasive species control programs and assist in the increase of awareness, skills and knowledge in the community of natural resource management and sustainable agriculture issues in the Moree region”, said Sally
“The project also provides the opportunity to provide some support for any farmers who wanted to get together as a group and discuss local issues”, concluded Sally.
