This region covers an area of 102,730 square kilometres stretching from the Carnarvon Ranges in the north, to the Queensland-New South Wales border in the south, and from Mungallala in the west to about 20 kilometres east of Miles. The regional boundaries include the Moonie and Border Rivers and their tributaries within Queensland and the Maranoa and Balonne rivers. Main towns include Roma, Miles, St George, Goondiwindi and Stanthorpe.

QMDC produces an average of 185 000 bales of cotton annually with a total of 105 500 hectares planted.
