Soil Nutrition Workshop - 04/09/07
Understanding your soils health is a crucial tool to have in creating a profitable and sustainable farming system. A free soil nutrition workshop has been created to help identify soil limitations and provide direction in management options for cotton and grain farming systems.
The aim of the workshop is to give primary producers and agribusiness the skills to assess and monitor soil and to help them implement appropriate management practices for increased profitability and sustainability.
Helen Squires Soil Extension specialist with Cotton Catchment Communities CRC (Cotton CRC) said the workshops will provide growers and their consultants with the skills to monitor their soils health, make more informed decisions and implement appropriate management practices.
“The workshop will also include expert advice from renowned soil management consultant Chris Dowling from Nutrient Management Systems” said Miss Squires.
The full day workshop will include insight into soil nutrition, how to develop sampling plans appropriate for various farming systems, address the issues surrounding choosing a laboratory service provider and how to produce and complete well structured recommendations for individual’s cropping and farming systems.
The event is hosted by the Cotton Catchment Communities CRC, Nutrient Management Systems and the Department of Primary Industries.
“Participants are encouraged to bring along their questions and take the opportunity to get the answers they need” said Miss Squires.
The soil nutrition workshop will be held on Thursday 11 September, 9am to 3pm at the Dalby RSL.
Lunch and refreshments will be provided. For catering purposes, please RSVP to Kate Charleston by Friday the 7th of September on 07 4669 0815, mobile 0428 271 599.
