Within every organisation are a few quite achievers. The sort of people that just get on and do a really good job without much fuss. The Cotton CRC certainly has a few of these. One of them, Graham Charles, popped above the radar recently. Graham leads a large and highly productive project developing weed thresholds and evaluating symptom and recovery strategies for herbicide damage. This has involved complex field experiments over many years that require detailed sampling and analysis. In particular Graham has managed to bring the data together and derive new weed thresholds, a tremendous effort that has taken long term commitment. However, this is the tip of the iceberg as Graham is also a core member of the Herbicides Technical Panel for TIMS, provides critical reports to APVMA on new herbicide registrations and also represents the industry as a member of the Australian Glyphosate Sustainability Working Group. And there is more. Graham has worked tirelessly to communicate his results to industry in presentations, articles and use of the CRC Website – with great initiative. He has been the champion of WeedPAK, ensuring regular updates to maintain relevance.  With David Larsen, he has developed a web tool to assist the industry in recognising the symptoms of herbicide damage – a mammoth undertaking requiring a significant time commitment. The result is an extensive, high quality compendium of herbicide damage symptoms and impacts that will be relevant and useful in the Australian cotton industry for many years to come. We congratulate Graham on his contribution to the industry and the Cotton CRC.
