Data Source: ABARE 2008, Australian Commodity Statistics 2008, Ch 2, Table 65, Canberra

  • The 1998-99 cotton season was the highest area of cotton production with 561 thousand hectares harvested.  The cotton growing areas in Australia are currently experiencing severe droughts, this is reflected in the reduced cotton ha.
  • Lint production closely follows ha harvested, however due to increases in yield per ha, the peak of lint production was in 2000-01 when 819kt (3.61 million 227kg bales) was produced.
